Having problems with your Nikon D200 Body Only Digital Camera ?

My d200 is picky about when auto focus works. It won't work for the shot I want, but if I turn the camera 8 degrees and try at that angle, it works fine. Sometimes turning the camera to manual, then off, then on, then back to auto focus does the trick, but not always. What is going on?

The focus ring inside the camera is a free-spinning lens that is controlled by electromagnets, with feedback from the microprocessor and sensor. When some dust, lint, sand, or dirt works it's way into the lens assembly, the ring can hang up, which is probably what's happening in your case. You can try to blow out the lens assembly with compressed air ($4 at Walmart) to see if you can free it up. If this doesn't work, you will have to have it serviced. You can try to gently bump the camera to free it up, also.
\015\012Take it into a local repair shop for an estimate, or contact Nikon Support on the web.
\015\012Good luck, and hope this helps.

Hi, I've just recieved my nikon d90 back from a repair and service, and although everything appears to be working fine, whenever I want to change shooting modes,( auto, P, M, flash off etc), they only work once I have selected them, and then turned the camera off and back on. In other words I cannot be shooting in the Auto mode and then switch to "flash off auto"....all that happens is that the auto focus works but the shutter will not operate. If I switch the camera off and on however, I can t

Focus There is one problem that I have with this camera - Auto Focus in low lighting and it has really limited manual focus. Outdoors this camera is outstanding, I haven't found any pitfalls outdoors yet. 10x optical zoom plus 2.5" LCD WOW. Although the LCD is littly choppy, but I don't care about that, pictures turn out really gooood. Anyways back to Auto Focus problem. Do any of you have the same problem? I have a D5000 camera w/ kit lens VR 55-200, less than a year old. Hello there, My Samsung ES55 recently stopped working completely (not turning on) for no apparent reason. I had been taking lots of photos, 153 to be exact, and then it just didn't work. When the lens was set to AF all you could is hear is it racking back and forth tying to focus. VERY FRUSTRATING.. Any ideas of what it may be or a setting I might have set accidentally. Any help is appreciated. Bob
